July 17 - 101.8 ain't just the temperature outside...

Because Max just can't be happy with his host of illnesses and loves to keep us on our toes, he had to develop a mystery infection today. I arrived at the hospital this morning to hear that at 08:00 he had a 101.8 temperature. It was down to 101.5 by 14:00, but Dr. D. went ahead and ordered a CBC and blood and urine cultures. I got the call about an hour ago that his temp is back to 101.8 and there's an indication of some inflammation so they're starting him on the antibiotic Vancomycin.

In spite of this new illness, Dr. D. said that Max looks great clinically. He appears to be breathing more easily and no one has seen him gag like he did before starting the continuous feeds. Tomorrow the attempted transition begins from 24/7 continuous feedings to feeding him over 2.5 hours, every 3 hours. If he does well with no emesis (read: barfing) then Dr. D. will compress the feedings into 2 hours every 3 hours.

That's enough for today.
