Max had his weekly visit to his primary pediatrician on Tuesday, but nothing new to report there. Everything went predictably.
Dr. A called back with CBC and LFT blood results from last week. Max' platelet count is now up to 100k!!! He's now almost up to half of the low end of normal (250-400k for infants). This may sound really low, but if you've been reading this blog for any time, you know that for most of his life it was between 18-35k. This is obviously good new for his overall health, but also an indicator that he may now be a candidate for G-tube surgery. Normally we wouldn't be looking forward to another surgery as a good thing, but being able to remove his NG-tube will eliminate the risk of aspiration, reduce Max' swallow aversion, and get him on the road to being more like a normal baby (albeit one with a grommet on his abdomen to mount a feeding tube).
