A garden room became available today only a few hours after we were told that it would be a 4-5 day wait. Garden rooms are semi-private rooms that have facilities for parents to stay overnight. They are still in the NICU, but designed to assist with the transition to going home. Parents can learn to operate any medical equipment that may be going home with their baby, while still being in a supervised hospital environment.
There is a futon-like surface here on which to sleep. I stop short of actually calling it a bed. Plus, there is all the privacy that a retractable hospital curtain affords. Though at my age, I've not much left to be modest about. However this is the first step in Max coming home!
I'll be staying here tonight, and Melanie will stay tomorrow.
