May 22 - Morning at Hospital

10:40 -- I am here at the hospital, blogging on the Family NICU Room's computer while the nurses change Max' PICC line dressing. It's gonna take awhile so I'm taking this opportunity to "make hay while the sun shines" as Mom says...

Anyway, Max has been wide awake this morning. I've been holding his little hands and staying real close. And... speaking of holding... the nurse confirmed that I GET TO HOLD HIM TODAY. It has to be coordinated around his chest physiotherapy, diaper changes, feedings, blood gases, and my pumping (sorry for the TMI, really) so it looks like the stars will align around 14:00. Crap, I hope I didn't jinx it.

The not-as-big announcements are that he is up to 50ML on his feedings (maybe that's old news) and today they're increasing his Enfacare calories to 24 from 22. There will be no more medicines administered via IV -- they'll be given orally now since he's tolerating his feeds well.

His blood gas this morning came back good, so they've reduced his breathing assistance a smidge. Say it with me: "baby steps." Last, this also may be old news, but they're not doing the bilirubin tests on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It has changed to Monday and Friday.
