May 19 - Evening

Unfortunately, an IV isn't able to stay in any one place very long. Its integrity starts to become compromised. The IV in Max' arm was starting to become unstable, so it needed to be moved. Although a bit disturbing to me the first time I saw it, Max got an IV in his head today.

He's also starting to open his eyes. Wow!

Max continues to be weaned off of TPN (IV feeding), and should soon be fully back on feeding via stomach tube (inserted in his right nostril). Due to the extra circulatory needs of the digestive system, Max is having a little more difficulty with breathing, but that was expected. Once he's up to full feedings, his physicians can address getting him off of intubation. Dr. R told us that it's best to only change one thing at a time. That way, if there's a negative result, they have a much better chance of identifying what caused it. Basic troubleshooting practice. This appeals to my inner engineer.
