August 14 - Another NG-tube Insertion
Back at home we have the unenviable task of putting in a new feeding tube. Our medical supply delivery still hasn't brought new feeding tubes, so we're left with the choice of using a larger diameter tube (8.0FR instead of 6.5FR), or using a 6.5FR tube with a weight at the end. The tube with the weight is designed to be inserted farther into the GI tract, so it's longer and has a more rigid, weighted tip. The tip makes it much harder to get the first stage of the insertion going past the sinus. I tried first, but each move forward felt like the tip wasn't bending and I was only risking a painful contusion in Max' frontal sinus. So Max is screaming now and we're quickly approaching our respective last nerves. Melanie took over and was able to get it on the first try. Whew!
