June 9

23:30 – Max was finally moved to a big boy bed today. This is a big milestone because it indicates that they're not concerned about unexpected, acute bleeding. We were told that the incubator cribs, with their low sides, provide better emergency access in case of sudden bleeding.

Max had only one stool today with any trace of blood. We hope that this is a trend and that the vancomycin is doing its job. We're really glad now that we decided against the ganciclovir to treat the CMV infection. One of the most common side effects is neutropenia, a suppression of the immune system due to a low number of neutrophil granulocytes (a type of white blood cell). This could have really allowed the secondary CDF infection to take hold.

I noticed a bruise today immediately above his naval. It's probably nothing, since Max still bruises easily due to his low platelet count and lack of clotting factors. We'll ask his physician about it on Tuesday.

Max has an MRI scheduled for tomorrow. However I was told tonight that it may be cancelled due to his "Contact Isolation" status. The MRI staff has a separate clean up and prep crew. If they're not prepared for Contact Isolation protocols tomorrow, they have the final veto to postpone this until a later date.
