12:40 – What a roller coaster ride! Only 24 hours ago we were starting to research the possibility of a liver transplant. Today, we have test results back that make that a very remote likelihood.
First, Max' ultrasound indicates NO scarring or hardened tissue in his liver structure. Second, doppler sonogram shows normal blood flow in his hepatic venal system.
However, we still have the unanswered question about what's causing the internal bleeding into his gastrointestinal tract. If not Portal Hypertension, then what? Although there was not much blood in Max' digestive system throughout last night, we have some renewed bleeding today. Perhaps it is an injury or irritation from the feeding tube. Or it could be some other GI condition. Tests continue...
On the lung front, his blood gas remains in good range. 53% CO2 last blood gas test; it's been fluctuating between %45-%55. His O2 saturation occasionally falls below normal (i.e. de-sat), but nothing to worry about we're told. The weaning from CPAP is still on track.
At his daily weigh in, Max finally broke the 7lb barrier! He's like a preemie Chuck Yaeger. Dr. D increased his phenobarbital and some other meds to adjust for the increased weight.
Max finally got the IV out of head. Last night it was moved to his right foot. That's not actually an "improvement" per se. He still has an IV. They only moved it because it can't stay in one location too long.
Just personally, I didn't like seeing an IV coming out of his head.
