16:01 -- I am so not in the mood to type on this little iPhone screen while I sit next to Max but if I don't DO something I'll chew the insides of my mouth raw. So here goes:
Max was extubated at 10:45 this morning, after lowering his assistance rate as I blogged about yesterday. They did a blood gas at 13:30 which came back "not so good" with a CO2 of 79. For reference, his CO2 at 08:45 was 49 while he was still vented. He fought the canulas going into the nose and tried to push them out. I saw Dr. D. When I arrived at 14:30 and he said that if the 21:00 blood gas is also bad then Max will go back on the ventilator tonight. And if he goes back on the vent it could be WEEKS before they'll try CPAP again. I really was not prepared for this although we knew it was possible.
AND.... At his 14:00 diaper change there was blood in his stool again. Unsure if Max was having some renal issues Dr. D. ordered a stomach xray. It came back normal so he's thinking Max may be having trouble digesting my breast milk. If there's still blood in his 17:00 diaper then Max will switch to a "pre-digested" or broken-down formula. Ugh!
The Social Security visit was surprisingly painless. I was in and out in an hour.
