May 16 - Late Afternoon

Just a quick update.  Met with neonatologist Dr. R. w/r/t Maxwell's current status and the health treatment game plan, since Dr. R. is Max' doctor through the weekend.  First, Dr. R. said that the potential thyroid issue is just that, a potential one.  It is far down the list of concerns at this point, especially since they're treating it with medicine.  If in the future doctors determine he doesn't have a thyroid issue then they'll just take him off the medicine; but for today, it's better to proactively treat him because of the risky side effects an untreated thyroid problem has in newborns.  So we'll put that on the back burner as far as things to worry about go.

Onto the more important issue:  the ever-present PDA.  I think Phoo has the contents of my conversation with Dr. R. in note form so I'll let him update the blog.  I frequently call him as soon as I finish talking to a doctor or other health care professional, because if I don't "brain-dump" immediately I'll lose most of what was discussed.  Like with this thyroid info, it just came back to me a couple of hours after speaking with Dr. R. even though I spoke with Phoo as soon as the doctor left but completely forgot to mention it.  It's now 17:51 and I have a tantrum-throwing toddler to deal with.
